WHAT IS LRCTF?
Based upon the
Quake
III Alliance code base, Loki's Revenge CTF is an Offhand Grapple
All-Weapons Capture The Flag modification for Quake III Arena made
as a tribute to the immensely popular Quake 2 CTF mod
Loki's Minions
Capture The Flag. Featuring 28 time-tested CTF maps and 11
top-tier FFA maps upon release, Loki's Revenge brings back many of the
popular features of Q2 LMCTF while taking the default Quake III weapons
and physics into account in order to provide a superbly-balanced offhand grapple CTF experience for Quake III Arena.
WEAPONS AND POWERUPS
 |
Chaingun - The LRCTF Chaingun is the only weapon differing from the
default QIII weapon set and replaces the default QIII machinegun.
Much like the Team Arena Vulcan in appearance, the LRCTF Chaingun
has a damage and fire ratio balanced in-between that of the QIII
machinegun and the Team Arena Vulcan. Players spawn with the
Chaingun and 50 ammo.
|
Grappling Hook - offhand grappling
means players can fire and carry another weapon at the same time
while using the grapple to move across a map or hook to higher
ground. We've backed off the breakneck speeds of the Alliance
grapple just a hair in favor of balanced, intense gameplay. bind

 |
 |
Bandolier - The bandolier in LRCTF is an instant ammo power-up
which
gives full ammo to all weapons, carried or not. Bandoliers spawn
every 2 minutes.
|
Team Backpacks - Each team has a single team-colored backpack which
allows an average 30% increase in the max amount of ammo a player
can normally carry. When the carrying player dies, the backpack respawns in its original location on 2-minute intervals. Backpacks
are ideal for stocking up a defender. bind x

 |
Adrenaline - In place of the Quake III medkit, LRCTF implements the
Adrenaline pak, an instant-use pickup which boosts health
to 125 any time health is 100 or below. Health will slowly
count down to 100 after pickup.
|
Runes - LRCTF brings back the four standard CTF runes: Haste,
Resist, Regeneration and Damage. Players can pick up and drop any one rune
at any time.
|
 |
 |
Flag Models - Lion and Wolf flags with a
Nordic-themed crest. |
Hand Grenades - What kind of tribute would this be
without hand nades? bind x "weapon 11"
TEAMPLAY FEATURES
Bright Enemy Skins - Similar to the Promode skins, LRCTF has
implemented an
enemy brightskins model shader. When enabled, brightskins turn enemy
players into one of a spectrum of different highly-visible colors,
making enemies easier to spot across great distances.
Team Radio - LRCTF brings a much better team communication and
coordination system to the plate, featuring over 60 newly-recorded
radio and voice sounds per each character set courtesy of Bryan 'Mongusta'
Watkins, lifetime LMCTF fan and Game Audio Director of the legendary DaneTracks in
Hollywood, California. LRCTF team radio was designed to promote
easily organized pub and even match play, whereas people from anywhere are able
to communicate effectively in-game using a simple key-binding system
and not have to worry about voice comm incompatibilities and other
logistical nightmares. All team radio and voice sounds can be bound
to keys via the menu system.
See the help page for a chart of radio binds.
 |
Team Skinsets - LRCTF introduces team-colored Leopard Print or
Camouflage skinsets for an added visual touch. The nostalgic demon
skin replaces the skins for the Grunt and Daemia default models. |
 |
Team Coloring - Each team's
weapon trails and effects are colored red/blue according to team so
you always know whether weapons fire is coming from friend or foe.
 |
Team Jersey Numbers - Appear over teammates
heads for easy identification of teammates in your hud and in game.
Jerseys also allow for direct communication with another player by
using the command "say_#"
|
Team Radar - A HUD display in the upper left corner which is a 2D
representation of the map layout which allows you to see your
teammates by Jersey number or item carried.
|
 |
 |
Team Tracker - Another HUD display that allows you to see at a
glance which side of the map your teammates are on. It also displays
whether teammates are Offense and Defense while also showing rune
and flag being carried.
|
COMPETITION FEATURES
Match Mode - In order to accommodate match play, a robust yet simple
to use match system has been implemented which allows a referee who
possesses the appropriate ref pass (or has been callvoted to
referee) to set all the necessary options required to administer a
match or scrim, including change maps, move/kick players, set cap &
time limits as well as temporarily set a match password. After each
game the default server config is executed to reset the server,
therefore refs will need to re-enter the password or be re-callvoted
each map which is only a minor inconvenience in order to avoid
hijacking of servers.
Referee levels - Server operators can set two levels of referees via
the server configs. Normal referees have the same amount of ability
as a super referee, although a super ref cannot be kicked by a
normal ref. Callvoted referees are given normal referee privileges.
In order to callvote a referee the server must have a minimum of 6
players and 80% must vote yes.
 |
Pro HUD - In order to
simplify and cut down on hud clutter, LRCTF features the new
Pro Hud tucked into the lower right corner which shows all the
info the normal and small huds show while taking up minimal screen real estate. |
GENERAL FEATURES
Ammo Limits - In order to promote game balance, teamplay and most
importantly curb the camp/spam we have
placed a cap on the max amount of ammo a player can carry.
See the help page for a chart of ammo limits.
Quad Limiting - Gone are the days when lamers in a 1v1 to 3v3 size game constantly camped quad and made playing
small pickup
games a total drag. An exciting new server-side option we've added to
Loki's Revenge is the ability to limit quad based on team size. As a
server-side default, the quad will not spawn in game until both
teams have a minimum of 4 players.
Fast Weapon Switching - The vanilla delay on weapon switching has
been reduced to 50ms to facilitate the faster-paced gameplay of
LRCTF.
No Weaponstay - LRCTF weapons respawn every 5 seconds.
Headshots - Railgun headshots occur when a player shoots an enemy
player model in the head, resulting in 110 damage. One of 3 custom
wav files and a headshot medal provide feedback when a headshot is
made.
Medals:
Assist - Killing the enemy FC resulting in a flag capture for your
team.
Capture - Capturing the enemy flag.
Defense - Protecting your FC or your base.
Excellent - Two or more kills in succession.
Humiliation - The dreaded gauntlet kill.
Impressive - Two rail shots in a row.
Headshot - Rail shots in the upper 8 units of the 56-unit tall enemy
player.
Instagib Deathmatch - A hotly-debated topic which sharply divided the ACTF community, we've taken Instagib entirely out of CTF mode.
For instagib,
simply choose g_gametype 0 (Free For All).
One exciting new feature to come about as a result are 2-minute instagib FFA intermissions should a server op choose to implement
minimaps between CTF maps via the maplist_mix.cfg.
Grappling Bots - Written for Alliance 3.x by SheBitch of the
BattleBots team, these bots were too impressive to let go so we just
had to keep them around. They grapple, rocket jump and use alternate
routes.
Funny Wavs - 800+ comical sounds sampled from popular movies and TV
shows intended for nothing more than good times and plenty of
laughs.
See the help page for a list of funny wav
filenames.
